What is a Dietary Supplement?

A dietary supplement is a manufactured product intended to supplement one’s diet by taking a capsule, tablet, pill, powder, liquid, drink and energy bar. A supplement can provide nutrients either extracted from food sources or synthetic to increase the quantity of their consumption in order to reach the suggested daily intake. The class of nutrient compounds includes vitamins, minerals, fibre, fatty acids, amino acids, herbs or other botanicals, enzymes, probiotics and many other ingredients. ¹

Benefits of Taking Dietary Supplements

Nutrients are essential for humans because they allow our bodily functions such as growth, repair and even breathing. Usually, most people can get all the necessary nutrients they need from a balanced diet which includes vegetables, fruits, healthy protein, whole grains, water and healthy oils. ²

However, supplements can provide you with extra nutrients when your diet is lacking or certain health conditions (such as cancer, diabetes, chronic diarrhea, Covid-19 etc.) trigger a deficiency. They are safe because they contain only small amounts of each nutrient as measured by the daily value (DV).

Additionally, good dietary supplements comply with the production criteria of certain government bodies like The United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), Health Canada etc. These types of govt. entities are responsible for protecting public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of Human and veterinary health.³

Is there any side effect of taking dietary supplements?

Dietary supplements are usually well-tolerated. The amounts of vitamins and minerals in them are low enough that most people don’t experience any side effects, but that doesn’t mean that taking higher doses is a good idea. While good nutrition requires the consumption of relevant nutrients, taking more than the recommended amount can lead to potential health problems. ⁴

This is why, we recommend BIGVITA products (such as Immune, Hair, Liver Detox and Healthy Lungs) because all the manufacturers of BIGVITA Products are FDA & GMP certified. On the other hand, we offer water-soluble supplements which are easier to digest than fat-soluble supplements.

Furthermore, we do suggest you have a balanced diet including drinking plenty of water besides BIGVITA Supplements.
